HELP +Addiction Treatment is a comprehensive program designed for
patients with chronic pain complicated by addiction. Chronic pain is a
disease that no one asks for. Whether due to injury or disease progression the
tissue changes are often irreversible and create the need for HELP services.
When patients who are unfortunate enough to have chronic pain are also
afflicted with the disease of addiction many providers refuse to treat them.
Even when the addiction is the result of a medically appropriate decision to
treat an addiction vulnerable patient with opioids due to injury or surgery
the complicating problems of addiction and chronic pain cause most
physicians to "just say no." This approach only further complicates the
medical problems for these patients.
The disease of addiction has well
established biological components. These disease elements respond
predictably to proven treatment. The Sequoia Center provides proven drug
treatment using state of the art components. Treating addiction in these
patients is only part of the problem. We must also treat the pain in an
integrated fashion. This is precisely why the HELP / Sequoia program exists.
These special patients receive 24 hour per day support and concurrent
treatment of their pain and their addiction. Patients are able to find the
day program at HELP combined with the evening attendance at the Sequoia
program complimented by the availability of a clean and sober living
environment at night as a complete care environment. As each problem becomes
more independently manageable patients can transition to less intensive
services at Sequoia and the HELP remote care services. Through these highly
individualized programs treatment that matches each patient's needs can be
provided.
